SONORA — November 2, 2026. Sonora’s municipal trail guide describes Dragoon Gulch as a network of more than three miles of trails through oak woodland, creeks and viewpoints close to downtown.
Trail length and access
The city lists 3.1 miles of trails, free access and daylight-only hours. It describes grades from easy to strenuous and says different segments have different surfaces; only certain portions have accessible improvements.
Two starting points
The Woods Creek Trailhead is approached via Woods Creek Park off Highway 49, with parking and park restrooms. The Alpine Trailhead is near Alpine Lane and offers an access point to improved trail sections.
Check the weather and trail conditions
Wet or icy surfaces can make natural paths hazardous, especially on steep grades. Hiking trails are not automatically maintained to the same accessibility standard; visitors should check their route and turn around when conditions are unsafe.
