SONORA, TUOLUMNE COUNTY — November 7, 2026. Sonora’s downtown is preparing for the sixth annual Christmas Town Sonora series, with the first holiday events scheduled during Thanksgiving week.
Dates to remember
The seasonal program begins with a ceremonial downtown lighting on Wednesday, November 25, including the Red Church and other central locations. The historic downtown Christmas parade is scheduled for Friday, November 27. Participant registration deadline: 5 p.m. Friday, November 13. The Sonora Chamber of Commerce lists a $25 entry fee for floats, school groups, businesses, nonprofit organizations, clubs and individuals. Applicants should use the Chamber’s official website to obtain the current entry form. Registration details source: myMotherLode, November 5, 2026. Organizers also plan crafts, caroling, Santa visits and carriage rides at various times during the series.
What the Chamber of Commerce is planning
Sonora Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Katie Dunn and Mayor Ann Segerstrom discussed the program as an effort to bring local residents and visitors into downtown shops and community spaces. The business community hopes the series will support neighborhood commerce during the holiday shopping season.
Another event returning in 2027
Organizers also previewed plans to bring the All-American Soap Box Derby back to Sonora in April 2027. Exact event routes, participation procedures and schedules may change, so residents should watch Chamber and city announcements instead of assuming every activity occurs at the same location or time.
