SONORA / TUOLUMNE COUNTY — November 7, 2026. Caltrans is advising travelers to expect intermittent one-way traffic controls on State Route 108 between Bonanza Drive and Sierra Road on Monday and Tuesday, November 9–10.
Working hours and possible delays
The state transportation agency has scheduled drainage work between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. It anticipates potential delays of five to ten minutes and recommends alternate routes where practical. Flaggers or temporary traffic signals may control the alternating flow; drivers should follow work-zone instructions rather than try to pass a stopped queue.
Why work is necessary
Drainage systems help remove water from roadways and limit deterioration of pavement and shoulders. Even modest maintenance can require crews and equipment to occupy part of a narrow highway. Planning work before major winter precipitation can help reduce later disruptions.
Another project is continuing downtown
The same November 6 Caltrans bulletin notes a longer-lasting lane shift on State Route 49 in Sonora between Green Street and the Downtown Plaza, currently planned through December 7. That SR-49 work concerns a separate culvert project previously reported by California58, and should not be confused with the new SR-108 drainage notice.
Check the latest conditions
The posted schedule can change because of weather, equipment problems or traffic incidents. Drivers should use Caltrans QuickMap for current conditions before setting out. The notice does not mean the full highway is closed throughout November 9–10.
